SPM analysis

In this talk, I will review the main ideas of the Statistical Parametric Mapping analyses. In particular, I will list the different statistical tests that can be performed and review the assumptions made for the application of the random field theory to estimate the false positive rate, as well as alternatives such as permutation techniques. I will comment on the recent literature that studied the validity of these tests using resting state data (Eklund et al, 2016) and on how validity of the tests can be asserted. I will put this literature in the larger context of reproducibility of neuroimaging and discuss the reasons why the null hypothesis testing framework is insufficient, and can be complemented by other data analyses techniques such as prediction analyses.
